Steps to reproduce:
install filebench
run filebench
load varmail
run 5
do this a few times (filebench quits after a run)
eventually, you'll notice it hangs starting up the test, like so...
22761: 24.313: Creating/pre-allocating files and filesets
22761: 24.314: Fileset bigfileset: 1000 files, 0 leafdirs, avg dir width = 1000000, avg dir depth = 0.5, 14.959MB
22761: 24.350: Removed any existing fileset bigfileset in 1 seconds
22761: 24.351: making tree for filset /tmp/bigfileset
22761: 24.351: Creating fileset bigfileset...
22761: 24.591: Preallocated 805 of 1000 of fileset bigfileset in 1 seconds
22761: 24.591: waiting for fileset pre-allocation to finish
22970: 24.594: Starting 1 filereader instances
At that point, filebench consumes all your CPU. You can Ctrl-C out, wait some time (10-30 minutes) and rerun it. SOMETIMES it'll work, sometimes it will still hang. Once it works, it will only work once or twice before hanging on test start up again.
