The different media players support different video
formats on different platforms. Our software should be
sensitive to this or should choose unproblematic video
formats. In particular:
1) JMF doesn't play Quicktime Sorenson.
2) QT 6 for Java doesn't play .mpg on the Mac, although
it does on the PC. (Apple knows about this.)

JMF has serious problems playing certain http URLs
(tested on Windows XP w/JRE 1.4.1):
1) when you open an .mpg file, its video controls begin
lacking a slider, even though the duration of the video
has already been determined. the slider will appear if
you click on play and let the video play through to the
end. however, if you click on play, then pause, then play
again, the movie is permanently screwed.
2) .mp3 files don't play at all. (i think this may be a
licensing issue.)
3) .avi videos play fine.
