Problem adding files to queue while mutli-file encoding is running

It appears that we can now add files to the queue during an ongoing conversion using mutli-file encoding. I found that to keep the current encodings from crashing it is best to pause the conversion for a few second while you add new files and then it works fine.

But there is one problem for me. I have the box checked to sort queue by longest files first and when I add files to the queue the new files get added in the same sort order but combined in the queue with files that have already encoded so Batch does not go back and encode them.

Have I done something wrong Abel?

Nothing wrong, multi-file was never designed to allow adding files on the fly, I just found a workaround to do so, but with some limitations, just like the one you just found, file list can't be re-sorted, so you have to wait for queue to finish to add new files.

Can you explain to me why sorting the files from longest to shortest is faster as is claimed in the settings of the program....to me hours of video to encode is the same regardless of the sort order but you know way more about this than me.

The reason I ask is because I only recently changed this setting when upgrading and that is when this issue started. If I leave it to sort by order files are added I can add files to the queue while others are encoding and it works fine....because they go to the end.

    Thanks as always Abel

Well, sorting files is only useful if there are great differences in files duration, so some time can be saved if the files that take longer to be encoded are started first. Anyway, actual gain is very variable and sometimes marginal. For example, a very long but low resolution video can take shorter than a short high resolution one, so duration is not always a good measurement.
