AC3 can be treated with liba52 for decoding, or using
SPDIF passthrough. You can also surcode output to
AC3 SPDIF passthrough, which is a great feature when
you want to expand stereo (with the matrix mixer), or
apply transform filter to the signal.
DTS can be treated with libdts for decoding, or using
SPDIF passthrough, but if you want to keep 5.1 and
apply transform filter, you have to reencode the signal
to AC3 output which has poor quality compared to DTS
on most home cinema systems.
Another example is DTS audio CD. Lot of soundcard do
not accept 44,1 KHz SPDIF passthrough. With ffdshow,
it is possible to decode DTS, resample it to 48 KHz, and
then choose AC3 for output, but you loose original DTS
dynamic due to AC3 reencode...
I stop here for examples... It would just be great to
have a DTS output...
Whatever, congratulation for those great filters !!!

I don't know about any opensourced DTS encoder. If there
would be one, I'd integrate it to ffdshow.
