#541 Constantly Crashing in Vista

I get COM surrogate crashes, WMP crashes and MPC crashes.

The COM surrogate usually crashes when Windows is generating thumbnails of videos with subtitles (although it crashes without thumbnails too).

WMP and MPC crash (usually) when loading a new video after one has already been playing, and sometimes when initially loading a video.

In my Problem Reports and Solutions explorer (part of Vista), after reporting the issues to Microsoft, they directed me here. So hopefully you guys understand this stuff.

It works, just crashes every time I use it. Great product though!

----

I have 133 of these COM Surrogate errors (not all are ffdshow.ax, but many):

I see this project isn't active. I don't have the problem using h-yamagata's build: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/

I am having exactly the same problem. Can't even list a directory containing video. Although, it does not happen with all input formats - some .avi files will thumbnail just fine. Any app that calls the ffdshow utility will crash immediately if there is anything odd in the input file. Unfortunately, I have no clue what the anomaly would be.

Hi, I solved this problem with Control Panel / Performance Information and Tools / Adjust visual effects / and Adjust for best performance. In fact, it's the "Show preview" which makes crash with my PC... Good luck !
