john_walker sent a message using the contact form at http://www.ffado.org/?q=contact. I use a Focusrite Saffire (white, not an LE) connected to a PC equipped with an Asus P5QPro motherboard. Since September last year, I have been unable to use ffado-mixer with this hardware - it crashes with the message 'SaffireMixerMono has no attribute SldIN1Out910'. However, qjackctl is able to connect to the Saffire, and I can use it after a fashion - but with no control over levels, and all but two of my output channels muted (the wrong two are unmuted.). I have tried various versions of Fedora 14, most commonly the CCRMA real-time kernel version, and have recently moved this machine over to Ubuntu - the fault persists on both v10.10 and the alpha version of Ubuntu 11. I have tried posting to Bugzilla, the ffado mailing list (this list), and have now submitted a report to the bug reporting tool that is supplied with Ubuntu. I was unaware, until today, that someone (Orget) on the Fedora team had been trying to help me. Sorry, I'm by no means a technical incompetent, but I'm not a full-time Linux developer either, so Orget's questions to me passed me by. The fault seems to persist whether I am using a vanilla version of ffado as supplied with the distro, or building it myself from the svn tree. I have carefully followed the instructions on avoiding duplicate copies of ffado or jack - this is definitely not the case on Ubuntu, where I have only tried the standard distro supplied packages. I have also been through the distro supplied README file and can find no illumination there. I have included the ffado-diag output here. Note that this is for Ubuntu 11 and the supplied version of ffado that was packaged for use with Ubuntu. I've got used to all the 'missing dependency' stuff from ffado-diag - the system still works, after a fashion, and is playing music to me as I type this. Is it the hardware? I know plenty of people use Saffires with ffado - and this system works perfectly with Windows. I'm more likely to ditch the Saffire and firewire than Linux, but something has to change soon! Many thanks to anyone who can cast any light. =========================================== ffado-diag output ============================================================= FFADO diagnostic utility 2.999.0- ============================ (C) 2008 Pieter Palmers 2009-2010 Arnold Krille === CHECK === Base system... kernel version............ 2.6.38-8-generic-pae old 1394 stack present....
