Hi Sokrates Welcome to FFADO! > I know that 828mk1 is an old stuff, but like it and have no much money to > buy another one..... That's fair enough. One of the advantages of Linux in general and ffado specifically is that we can keep devices operating long after the manufacturer has lost interest in them. > First, I'm running Musix ... Ok. > When I read that motu mkII works with ffado, was very happy and try linux > adventure, since motu drivers for for 828mkII also works in 828mk1. Notwithstanding your later comments, the state of the 828mk1 support is a bit unknown at present. The "motu" ffado driver aims to support all motu interfaces and as you have correctly identified the 828mk2 is supported and reportedly works well. However, the 828mk1 is a very different device at the level at which ffado works - it is configured in very different ways to an 828mk2. This is why the 828mk2 works but the 828mk1 is unknown. The other reason why we don't know the current state of the 828mk1 is that I don't have one to test and neither do any of the other developers. Every so often an 828mk1 owner has popped up on the list and some progress is made, but then other things get in the road and they are unable to continue. The last 828mk1 tester was able to provide information which I needed to make ffado capable of turning on the flow of audio data to/from the device, but none of that new code has been fully tested/debugged yet. > Then I had a strange issue: once, I got to communicate the jackd and the > motu, of course, it didn't work but al least I get something, since jack > started and motu changed physically it's led from 48000 to 44100....but not > much more. This is in fact good news - it means the sample rate control is now working. > Actually, can't remember if it was with i386 or amd64 (and if it > really matters). It shouldn't matter. Certainly ffado is more extensively tested in a 32-bit environment, but enough people have run it in 64-bit mode for us to be reasonably confident that it's ok. > Tried again i386 an amd64 but nothing. I got only error messages. I started > ffado-dbus-server too, but only displays something like "fatal error (149) > no message buffer overruns" or something like that, don't remember exactly > what. Ok, so there's some low level errors happening here. We'll need to get the more detailed error messages and take things from there. > Yeah....finally..... can I do something to help development? ... Certainly - if you are willing to run tests for me we might be able to work out what the device isn't working and fix it. > Currently have no ffado-svn in my system, but if is a small possibility to > help, I will install it again (to give you more detailed data as well) To proceed further you will need to put ffado-svn on your system. That means we're working from a known code base. Once you've done that there are two things you can do to get started. 1) Run ffado-diag and email me the output 2) Run ffado like this: jackd -P70 -R -dfirewire -p 1024 -n 4 -v 6 >& /tmp/ffado.log and then email me the /tmp/ffado.log file that this will create. If the command doesn't exit within 2 or 3 seconds, hit ctrl-c. This file will contain lots of debugging messages which should shed some light on what's going wrong. Regards jonathan |
