Hi Martin Thanks for your email. > I have attached the output of 'jackd -d firewire -v6 -r44100' > with a Motu MkI on Ubuntu Studio on a Dell P4 2.66GHz with a PCI > firewire card that shows up as 'Agere Systems FW322/323 (rev 61)' with > lspci. > > Basically it can't start the streaming although it detects the device. Indeed. The message indicates that either the MOTU itself rejected the "start streaming" command or there was a problem sending this instruction to the MOTU. There are a couple of things to keep in mind here. The first is that I'm not completely sure that the original 828 unit has worked reliably with FFADO. I've had sporadic contact with owners of the original 828 but for one reason or another we've never managed to confirm operation of the interface with FFADO. As a result of this it's difficult to tell whether this failure is a result of the changes made in rev 1905 or is simply due to the incomplete support for the original 828 device. Having a look at the dump you provided I don't think the failure is due to changes in rev 1905 - this is because the attempt to activate streaming on the device fails, and this must succeed before any of the audio port issues become significant. Another possibility here is that the original 828 used to work but that some change along the way has unknowingly broken support for this interface. This could easily happen because we don't have anyone regularly testing ffado against an original 828. > With -r48000 it's unable to set the sample rate. Hmm, ok, this tends to suggest that there are still some low-level issues with the original 828. I should note that the original 828's control protocol bears very little resemblance to that used for the 828mk2 and beyond - so even though the 828mk2 is well supported it doesn't mean the original 828 is just as well supported. > I'm new to the FFADO stuff so I might be (probably am) doing something > wrong. >From what I can tell I don't think you're doing anything wrong. I think the only problem is the incomplete (and mostly untested) support for the original 828. We might be able to do something about this though - please contact me directly (ie: off-list) if you would be willing to do some testing for me so we can try to get the original 828 working properly.
