This is a hacked up version of Alfonso's ContentLength
plugin.
Basically I hijack the onKeyDown event so that it works
in IE as well as FireFox (the two I tested on) and I
also added content length checking and a box with
"remaining length" which turns red and pops up and
alert when the max length has been met.
usual caveats apply

How do you get this to work? What files have to be
changed / added etc?
I don't see anything different occuring by using standard
deployment.
(using IE)

I humbly grovel. Had to clear the cached IE files to get
the updated ones to present!
Works great!

the Unknown toolbar item "ContentMaxLength" appear if you use the plugin with the new version of FCK editor.
I have test this plugin with the version 2.2 and still works for version 2.3 and above it dosen't work. You can download older version of FCK editor at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=75348&package_id=75845
