Maybe this is old news, but I only just stumbled on this and can say it works very well after some tweaking. I couldnt find any reference to it here on OGN.
Thanks to V4Friend and Ronski…you can use a standard webcamera to achieve in effect a similar if not equal result to TrackIR and FreeTrack, except you dont need to wear any head tracking device, it uses FaceAPI to monitor the position of your head. Really, the best results are achieved with a camera that can read at 30Hz or more. I have found you get lag and jitter if you cannot achieve 30Hz with your camera. The PS3-Eye looks after itself and can achieve up to 120hz. It operates in the dark just as well as in the day with no background lighting (One of the limitations of freetrack).
I have tried it out in ARMA2 and am very impressed with the results. As a history, I had a Logitech quickcam Pro 5000. I killed it trying to remove the IR filter so Freetrack would operate better. After some investigation I discovered FaceTrackNoir on the BI Forums of all places.
I went and bought a Sony PS3-Eye and are using the codelaboritories drivers.

Has anyone started compiling a list of games that work or dont work with FTNR? So far these are the ones I have tried:
Freetrack:
Arma II
TrackIR:
Arma
IL-2 1946
DCS Black Shark (After Using TrackIRFixer)
HAWX (With TrackIRFixer)
Lock-On Flaming Cliffs 2 (With TrackIRFixer)
X-Plane 9
I can add "Wings of Prey" to that list of compatible games.
PS: Has anyone else tried it? If I could tell me how to make a youtube movie from ARMA2 I would post a video of a new SP mission I am making for the FlyBoys out there which demonstrates FaceTrackNoir. Infact there are some out there already on youtube.
I really like it, I could never justify spending money for trackir, but always likied the idea of what it did.
Thanks
Frosty

I am Really Really amazed by this software as per all the videos I've seen!
I open the program up and it tracks my face immediately. I have selected simconnect. I started this up before and after starting FSX
I open up FSX and go to settings and then controls and then to controller type and there's only mouse inputs.
I also downloaded the ARMA 2 Demo
started ftN and started tracking with both faketrackir and facetrack
open up settings in arma 2 and there is facetrack selected on analog looking on infantry.
once again no communication between the two programs.
HOW HOW HOW
This is so frustrating the programs are not communicating and there seems to be no tutorials as if it just worked first shot or something.
please help, this program is like a dream come true!
Sincerely and thanks in advance,
R3allyamazed
I might be wrong but try starting FTNOIR and selecting Freetrack instead of faketrackir good luck this should work
also select freetrack ingame

Hi R3allyamazed and Frosty,
Thanks for your enthusiasm! The website contains a lot of information nowadays. BTW. the FreeTrack protocol is currently only supported by ArmA.
