Currently whenever an ext3 filesystem is mounted using this
package, Linux later complains about the journal. Since
under 10.2.2 and later, journaling is supported for HFS+, it
shouldn't be that complex to support ext3, and it would
make this package far more useful.

Sounding like an idiot, how complicated would it be to add
Ext3 support to this project? You'd also want to consider
changing the name of the project to concur with this feature
addition.

I think journaling for ext3 is completely different from
journaling on hfs+.
That being said, yes, I too would love to see journaling
support added. That would then make this my filesystem of
choice for removable media now that reasonable support for
it is available for windows, linux, and freebsd.

As numbski said, Ext3 is completly different than OS X's journaling. In
fact Ext3 journiling is integrated int the Linux kernel buffer cache which
make porting that much harder. This is not a trivial task, and too tell the
truth I don't know if it will ever get done.
If you can post the linux error messge, I might be able to add something
to mark the journal as clean. At least that way the error message will no
longer occur.

Ext3 read[/write] support would be great, because of that
coupling an USB2-drive that is normally connected to an
NSLU2-Linksys NAS and is ext3 formatted would make it
possible that in case of a NSLU2-failure, the data can
still be accessed.

hello,
i installed ext2fsx_dev 14d4 on my MacOs X tiger 10.4.8 computer that contains an ext3 partition (ubuntu installed).
altough the ExtFS manager recognizes the ext3 partition and says it's writable, I can't write on this partition from MacOS X and the information tab says it's in read-only... I can't figure out how to fix this...
