#10 shared with Thunderbird

Does anyone else share an ext3 drive between Linux and WinXP?
I share my firefox and thunderbird profiles.
firefox works fine but I get errors when I get new mail with thunderbird:
"There was an error truncating the Inbox after filtering a message to folder 'blah'. You may need to shutdown Thunderbird and delete INBOX.msf".
I tried their solution and it didn't work.
I suspect it might be related to it being too slow.
