We are confused and have a couple of questions regarding the way ext2fsd operates, both as an application and as a service:-
1st) The service: our service configuration is set to SERVICE_SYSTEM_START. According [Ext2 Volume Manager->Tools->Service Management], the service is indeed running as expected. However, using either msconfig.exe or Task Manager, the service is is nowhere to be seen. Neither does it appear on the services list under Computer Management (mmc.exe). The question is: can the service be managed this way, much like the others (MS or not)?
2nd) The Volume Manager application: this requires Administrator level privileges to run. This is a problem for users with accounts below that privilege level, yet who still require access to ext2 volumes. A way past this is to invoke using the Windows 'runas' capability - but we'd rather not use this. Given that the service is already running, is there any way to run the application in concert, thereby removing the UAC challenge?
Thanks for reading.
