the DatabaseInstanceManager offers a shutdown method:


Collection root =3D DatabaseManager.getCollection("xmldb:exist:///db",
"admin", null);
		DatabaseInstanceManager instance =3D
			(DatabaseInstanceManager) root.getService(
				"DatabaseInstanceManager",
				"1.0");

		instance.shutdown();
