Wolfgang, 117 GB on the destination drive. When the backup is created the resulting directory is 988 K. Looks like plenty of space. Besides anytime I wanted, I have been able to run the backup to that disk when I started eXist as a user job rather than as a service. After a few people reported problems because they were running out of disk space, I added a check which will switch the db into read-only mode if the amount of free disk space goes below the minDiskSpace setting in conf.xml. By default, minDiskSpace="1024M", which might be a bit too high? However, I wonder why you did not get any hints about this in the log files.
