Hi Gary, > Thanks to all who replied about this - looks like an overwhelming YES to eXist being an appropriate technology here. Now for my (second?) dumb question. Joe, I've been reading your presentation which is great, thanks for that. Wonderful! By the way, the files that power the Punch website demo (which was the exercise for my TEI@Oxford presentation) are posted at: http://tei.oucs.ox.ac.uk/Oxford/2010-07-oxford/materials/workshops/eXist/ (The files are zipped; or you can browse the repository.) > But I'm using Linux and can't see how to get my TEI data into eXist. Any pointers much appreciated. As Jim suggested, there are many ways to get files into eXist. My personal preference is to use a WebDAV client, and connect to http://localhost:8080/exist/webdav/ . Follow the directions at http://exist-db.org/webdav.html; the Linux client on that page is KDE Konqueror. For an alternative Linux client, let me suggest AnyClient (http://www.anyclient.com/); I have had success with AnyClient on a Windows 7 machine (which is quite a feat because Win7 has notoriously buggy WebDAV support!). If you have any problems with WebDAV, I'd suggest using eXist's Java-based admin client. Follow the directions at http://exist-db.org/quickstart.html#sect7. To upload a file to oXygen, just click on the document icon with the +. If these don't meet your needs, let us know why, and we'll suggest any one of the alternatives (Ant, XMLRPC, curl, etc.) that would hopefully fit the bill. Following this I'd look at implementing some search functionality and presentation of search results, through to presentation of the individual works. >> >> My questions are: >> i) is this sort of application something that is suited to eXist development >> ii) any pointers to get started quickly? >> >> Thanks a lot, >> Gary >> >> >> GARY BROWNE | Development Programmer >> Library IT Services | University Library >> THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY >> Level 1, Fisher Library F03 | The University of Sydney | NSW | 2006 >> T +61 2 9351 5946 | F +61 2 9036 0000 >> E gar...@sy... | W http://sydney.edu.au >> >> Sent from my plain old desktop computer. >> >> CRICOS 00026A >> This email plus any attachments to it are confidential.
