You have a wrong idea of the eXist-db, it is not 'just an ordinary xquery processor' that works on *files*. Queries in eXist are executed efficiently because the queries run on the internal data structures of the database. Only this way it is possible to query across multiple *documents*. In all cases you need to have the database running 'somehow', e.g in embedded mode (using the fluent API?). You'll always have the DBX files... somewhere. regards Dannes |
