Greetings All: A quick question about clustering with EVMS. I recently had to switch and not use my PERC 3 /DC card (LSI Elite 1600) which supports clustering RAID (in hardware) because of HORRIBLE performance. With no idea when they are going to fix the drivers/Bios/Gremlins and clustering support I have fallen back to a a couple of Adaptec 39160's. So far in non-clustering software raid I have been very happy about performance, 2-3 times faster than the PERC 3's. This brings me to my concern: Section 15.1 of the users guide states Do not assign RAID, snapshot, and BBR features to storage objects on a cluster container. I guess I am a little confused by this, while I certainly understand where software raid could be a problem for shared containers, why couldn't I use it in a private container? I mean people did this before there was a "cluster" version of EVMS right? They just manually kept the two servers from accessing the same container at the same time. Is there something in using software raid that I am missing? --Randy Schapel |
