Peter, you have the gift of asking interesting questions in compact
form.
The answers I might offer you are not as compact, as is often the
nature of answers.
I also think that little good would come of giving a list of the things
I would change in Etherboot. A non-trivial amount of my life for the
last five years has been dedicated to helping to make it what it is.
Whatever differences of opinion I have with other Etherboot developers,
in the end, I'm proud of what we have done together.
I some ways NILO will be part of my answer to your question. I hope
people will like it, and more importantly, I hope to have a lot of fun
hacking it, and hope to attract some new folks that enjoy being close
to bare-metal. And I hope to have a lot of fun and make a lot of bad
jokes on the mailing list, and laugh and rant and heal, all in good
measure. I also hope to be a good project manager and put out
something that will make a lot of people happy -- both the people who
hack it and the people who use it.
So, I hope that helps a little. We can talk about it off-list if you
want more details. It's not an easy thing to step back from something
like this, but I know it's time to focus more of my energy elsewhere.
Thanks for your words of wisdom, and your questions. I enjoy them.
Marty
