Other than myself, you are the first to attempt to use etherboot with this card (that I know of). I will certainly try to help you out with it. Currently, there is one issue, but no known bugs ;-) > > Well you won't get 100Mb out of it with an ISA bus, but no worse than a > > 10Mb anyway. After careful research and a purchase on ebay, I realized. One, there was no etherboot driver (I had to write one if I wanted it) two, with the limitation of the ISA bus (similar to the USB 1.x) the card will never reach 100 mb and three, even though I managed to get it to work on my P100, the 486 that I bought it for required ISA_PNP. I did manage to implement the ISA_PNP and the card does work well for me. I learned a couple of things: 1) Even when you're sure, you're probably wrong. 2) The ISAPNP tools code is frightening (the linux kernel code is better). 3) Open source is incredible, I could not have written the driver without it. 4) The 3c515 was meant to allow ISA bus PCs to be connected to a 100Mb network in the days before autosensing 10/100 switches and hubs were prevalent. It was not meant to overcome the limitations of the ISA bus. Regards Tim |
