Perhaps what I was trying to say (and then I got mixed up) is that not everytime the position a protocol has in the stack will relate directly to the function stated in the OSI model. And the, because of the way that EtherApe identifies protocols it would be pretty difficult to fix it. Maybe I should state more clearly that the protocol stack level dropdown does not intend to be OSI correct, and the examples are there just for reference. More than ICMP, what bothers me is that in FDDI and Token Ring, there is always the LLC header over ther 802 header, and that is being counted as a protocol stack level.
