Yes, you are running EtherApe in ethernet mode, and what you are seeing are
only the nodes in your LAN.

What you want is internet mode. Run as 
etherape -mode ip

I'll make it the default in future versions, since a lot of people gets
confused with this.

Though it could change in the future if I move to gnome-config.
