Hi Fergus,

Glad to see this new feature in Google translate. It would be greater if Cantonese, which is spoken in Hong Kong and some other places, is supported too.  I can provide necessary help.

As Silias said, Korean voice in Ekho is not good enough and I haven't maintained it for quite a long time in Ekho.

For demo of Ekho Chinese voices, you can try http://wa.eguidedog.net, which is a WebAnywhere server (a web-based screen reader)

I feel guilty to talk things beyond eSpeak in this list. So here is something interesting. I have setup an eSpeak TTS server, which can be used as demo of eSpeak voices.
