Hi Jonathan, most people I've met say eSpeak Chinese has a bad accent, but my attempt to sequence Yali's recorded syllables, although better, still isn't very good because I can't get all the tone sandhi right with recorded syllables (for example I do not have recordings of half-tone-4, full-tone-3, or the higher neutral tone that occurs after tone 3 .. I've tried to "cheat" electronically for the latter but I can't do the others because the non-tone1 recordings are not calibrated well enough). I guess to be perfect we'd have to use eSpeak but improve its Chinese consonants. You mentioned before that you were working on some way to improve eSpeak's handling of foreign-language sounds; did this ever happen? Is there any way to take our existing recordings of Yali's Chinese syllables (and Hae-Sung's Korean syllables) and isolate some of the consonants for use in eSpeak? Thanks.
