Ascom specifies only two pointing state situations: PierEast PierWest You can add the pointing direction of a telescope PierEast, pointing West PierWest, pointing East see fig 3 EQMOD display indicates physical side of pier. That should have only PierEast (yellow area 4) PierWest (purple area fig 4) If you add the telecope pointing direction you get four situations. Not two! I have carefully added them to fig 4. Figured it out. I looked back into the PC's time settings, while I had previously changed the actual time, the time zone was still off. After changing that, everything is now working properly. EQMOD now displays the correct LST and NINA now has the correct moonrise/moonset/etc times. The system is now able to quickly plate solve, etc.

I’ve been having quite the difficulty getting EQMOD to work with my Skywatcher HEQ5 & NINAsoftware. In NINA’s it shows moonrise at 14:11, moonset at 05:52. Those seem off to me. For instance, Photopills says moonrise should be 7:12AM and moonset is 10:53PM. Doing some digging, I think it could be a time mismatch issue. I did change the PC's time to current time. didn't seem to make a difference in what NINA thought the sunrise, sunset, etc time should be. Other than the coordinates in EQMOD, I don't...

The source for each release is included in the installer exe for that release. When you run the installer there is an option to install the source which will be placed in the Program Files(x86)/Common Files/ASCOM/Telescope/Source/EQMOD directory. Note that code is VB6 and uses a proprietary dll for low level comms to the mount. The source for that dll is not provided as it is not open source.

This is something we have considered, discussed and tested in the past but sadly was found not to be practical. The issue is the wide range of slew speeds the mount can have move at and the relatively small amount of deflection on a joystick. Yes the software can detect small adjustments if the joystick but that doesnt' mean that the user will be capable of operating the stick with the precision that the softeare can read it. In practice we found it was just too easy to accidentally move the stick...

  • Chris Shillito Chris Shillito posted a comment on ticket #10

OK I understand. EQMOD has nothing to do with the way stellariumscope interacts with stellarium or the assignment of the ctrl keys. Stellarium doesn't support ascom at all so the way stellearium scope works is define three stellarium "telescopes" - each assigned to a ctrl key. When you hit the ctrl key stellarium initiaites a goto on the associated telescope. Stellariumscope is then able to intercept these goto commands coming out of stellariums tcp port and map them on to a few selected ASCOM commands...

  • Chris Shillito Chris Shillito posted a comment on ticket #10

As I've tried to explain EQMOD is not shitting itself down - it is being commanded to close by the client application you are using. Use a different client, such as the tooolbox application supplied with EQMOD, and you can happy open up EQMOD with the mount disconnected. So there really is no need for anything to change.

Interesting, Thanks for the info I will take a look at these scripts. You say however you see no reason to make EQMOD stand-alone. Well you might not but I sure do. Last night for example I thought I may have a setting in EQMOD wrong so instead of just booting up the laptop and opening EQMOD to check - I had to basically setup, connect and initialize my rig to check an EQMOD setting..... To me that's plenty reason to if nothing else have it open even if it gives a sort of warning that mount is not...

Ok, I use EQMOD with StellariumScope and Stellarium. StellariumScope uses the keyboard commands. CNTL1 to drive mount to selected target in Stellarium. CNTL3 to SYNC to the selected target in Stellarium and CNTL5 to cancel the SYNC. The EQMOD gamepad button assignment window will accomodate the CNTL3/SYNC but as far as I can see there is no way to asign CNTL1 or CNTL5 to a gamepad button in the EQMOD window. It would be a nice future update to include those two commands although I have never found...

  • Chris Shillito Chris Shillito posted a comment on ticket #10

I've no plans to modify EQMOD to run as stand alone application - and to be honest I really don't see the need. Doing so would also invalidate it as an ASCOM compliant driver. However, if you really want to operate it that way then there is a way it can be "tricked" into launching. Take a look at the vbscripts that should have installed with EQMOD (should be listed off the widoows start menu). There should be a "start EQASCOM" script that uses a "back door" to mess with EQMOD's client count in order...

EQMOD is not a stand alone applicaiton but is an ASCOM driver. As such it only appears when a client application asks it to - it also only closes when the all the connected applications have disconnected. Try using the toolbox application that installs with EMQOD to launch EQMOD - you will see that that the toolbox will not close down EQMOD if it fails to connect to the mount. The flashing you see is caused by your planetarium/control application client application shutting down EQMOD when it reports...

Yes the last report wirtes over the perious - in 2.13 it should ony start a new report each time ASCOMPAD is started. The idea of a continous move is that it is continuous - I don't understand why you would want/need to release the button after each 500 step movement? You would surely only release the button when your happy the focus is near enough (and then preumably switch to a smaller move preset to finish the job). Keep in mind that many focuser designs the speed and resolution of the movement...

Yes it did and that's what threw me. I intend to run it again together with screenshots to give more information. I renamed the debug text file to try to show a log when connected and another when it fails to connect as there does not appear to be any difference in what it reports. But one report seems to have over written the other. On v1.2 giving a command to move 500 resulted in the move stopping when it reached 500, even though the button was still held down. Hi Charles, Did ascompad put out that "Sorry focuser is incompatible. Absolute requires a position read" message? prior to you taking a copy of the debug file? Neither of the driver exceptions reported in the file look critical and are probably quite valid - I was expecting something that indicated a failed read of position. If the preset is set as contiuous then I think it makes sense that holding the button down will result in a series of 500 step moves. The previous behaviour you describe seems...
