We move into a phase of this project where the only identified support is coming from NSLS II. I would like to clarify the goals of NSLS II and the schedule. Up until now, this project represents one direction of development that we have been following to provide a client/server architecture that can be extended to support high level physics applications. As Nikolay Malitsky and Guobao Shen have identified this work as a possible approach to meeting our requirements, the NSLS II is able to support this work toward that end. This support can include funding for Marty and Matej. However, this work must now be directed at the results required by the NSLS II high level physics application's requirements. We need to transport a limited new set of structures, as well as all of the DBR types from EPICS V3 over a protocol that provides all of the mechanisms that exist in Channel Access version 3. >From my perspective, this work has the following aspects: 1) define the new metadata required. 2) develop a server Interface that puts these structures onto a protocol 3) develop the protocol 4) develop the client side interface 5) develop the servers version 3 ChannelFinder Multichannel Image Multi-dimensional array statistic structure twiss structure others as they arise. 6) develop the clients plotting image archive machine servers Our schedule is to meet Sept 2010 evaluate each of our options and determine the final design Sept 2011 deliver 2-4 to support 1 for both C and Java implementations. There is a great deal of work being done to develop PVData and PVAccess as the lead options for this framework. There is a working implementation of PVData structures being serialized and deserialized using DDS topics and version 3 of Channel Access on the PCAS implementation. Thank you for the great dedication you have show to this work. Please let me know if you are unable to support the goals of this project. Thanks, Bob |
