I'm here! Checking in from Virginia, USA: Burke Azbill -- MCP+I, MCSE, CNE, CCA, CCNA, and working on final exam for MCSD.. Yeah, I know that's a lot of M$ crud, but it helps me pay the bills ;) Other than Studying every night for these exams, I've enrolled in College - finally going back full-time (online only) to get a degree. Thank you U.S. Gov for the GI bill :) At work, I've been working on a Help Desk module that is finally in use by my company's largest client. When the Netware servers are running well and there aren't any other major Crisis taking place, I work on the Help Desk module and scan through Personal Messages and Forum posts on the Envo site so I can give feedback when necessary. When The Help Desk Module stabilizes a bit more, I plan on sneaking in some time at work to make some updates & modifications to Arena Forum. You may or may not know that I have advocated using mod_gzip on apache servers to compress html and php on the fly to increase perfomance and page load times. Since Apache2 there has not been a reliable mod_gzip that is compatible (one is in the works though) But for those using Apache2 there is a reliable alternative. I am a linux advocate so I don't have explanations or examples for windows users. Sorry! To setup a linux machine to gzip html and php (you don't ever want to gzip images) you can follow my example. This example uses Red Hat Linux 9 (shrike) First: edit /etc/mime.typrd and add: application/x-httpd-php php Next: Add this to your /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf file: LoadModule deflate_module modules/mod_deflate.so Under the section where the modules are actually loaded! (This will only work if you actually have this module located in /etc/httpd/modules...if not you will need to recompile apache with the ./configure --enable-modules=all --enable-mods-shared=all --enable-deflate switch) Next scroll down a little farther in your httpd.conf file and add these lines somewhere after the AddHandler type-map var entry is where I have mine: <IfModule mod_deflate.c> SetEnv gzip-only-text/html 1 SetOutputFilter DEFLATE </IfModule> SetOutputFilter DEFLATE DeflateFilterNote ratio SetEnvIfNoCase Request_URI \.(?:gif|jpe?g|png)$ no-gzip dont-vary SetEnvIfNoCase Request_URI \.(?:exe|t?gz|zip|bz2|sit|rar)$ no-gzip dont-vary SetEnvIfNoCase Request_URI \.pdf$ no-gzip dont-vary DeflateMemLevel 9 AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html application/x-httpd-php BrowserMatch ^Mozilla/4 gzip-only-text/html BrowserMatch \bMSIE !no-gzip !gzip-only-text/html Header append Vary User-Agent env=!dont-vary (I've put blank lines in between each entry because the second line starting with SetEnvIfNoCase should not be wrapped, it's supposed tobe on 1 line and my mailer may wrap it) Now save your httpd.conf file and restart apache and your webserver will automatically gzip all php and html files. NOTE: This method is much more efficient than PHP's built in ob_gzhandler so if you have any modules that have this hardcoded you will need to remove that or disable this option in your php.imi file. mod_deflate does ther gzipping much more efficiently and offers better performance. The DeflateMemLevel 9 is the maximum compression for mod_deflate and you can specify any interval from 1-9 to adjust for best performance and speed for your server. 6 is usually considered the best in terms of performance versus compression level. Despite the fact that the compression algorithm is not as effective as the one found in mod_gzip, using mod_deflate for Apache 2.0.x is still a quick and effective way to decrease the size of the files that sent to clients. Anything that can produce between 50% and 80% in bandwidth savings with so little effort should definitely be considered for any and all Apache 2.0.x deployments wishing to use the default Apache codebase. Once a stable mod_gzip is out for Apache2 I will update the list and create RPM's if nessessary. Enjoy! Zoom BTW: You can test you server to make sure it is actually gzipping no matter whether you use mod_gzip or mod_deflate by visiting http://leknor.com/code/gziped.php and typing in your server URL. To check if php is being gzipped make sure to use a URL to a php file such as http://yoursite/index.php |

I have been working on an idea to increase the number of developers on the eNvolution project. I have at our disposal the www.workwanted.ca portal. It is not necessary that all jobs posted be paid positions. The RTE_Multi is enabled for the phprofession module so demonstrating and showing visibly what eNvolution is to Job Seekers is very easy to do. If anyone could write a decent casting call for recruiting new developers that would help us all out. I have an amazing pool of technical programming talent in the Database already mostly filled with people looking for work. This means that when I send a mail out to all the users asking them to check the job board there is a good chance we can pick up some more talent on the team. We need more advertising and I would like for www.workwanted.ca to be able to assist in this respect. With close to 20,000 visitors a day people are looking for work and from experience are not fussy, paid or not. Can someone write a job posting for the eNvolution project and post it at www.calgary.workwanted.ca as an employer? |

Good News today. I finish work on MySQL side of the Multi-Site install for 1.2.5 and you can see it in action at www.envolution20.linuxguru.ca or at www.envolution.linuxguru.ca. 1.2.5 Kicks Ass. Anyone interested in obtaining a sneak peak at the installer can email me or respond to the list and I will email it to you. New in this version: -Fragmented scripts are history. -Form based Updates at the 80% mark -You Can now set the following for sites 0-20 -Sitename -Slogan -Theme //depreciated -Dynamic Keywords -Admin Mail -Notify Email -Notify Subject -Allow User Delete -Send Delete Mail -Send Add Mail -Send User Pass -Use Compression -Update Story One Title -Update Story One Home Text -Update Story One Body Text -Update Story Two Title -Update Story Two Home Text -Update Story Two Body Text I eventually want to be able to use this as and administration tool. It works perfect if you can write like s:5:"site1"; where needed. I either need to @ the INSERT INTO's for group perms in newinstall.php or code around if UPGRADE=NEW first though. I want to be able to run it after the install to make widespread changes to a portal quickly. TO DO: -Oci8 compatability -Upgrade path -More module_vars -Insert Catagories -Insert Stories -And on and on and on... |

This is a problem, I often realized when translating. Some german translations therefore are real ugly. I hope, when we will start to coordinate our translations, we will have better results. Therefore I will make a suggestion for modul development: It would be very fine, if there would be a mocule, which would read in translations for a specified modul, would let you to translate it and would store it bacj in a way, that it wouldn't be overwritten by new releases. It would be nice, if there would be a possibillity to decide, wether a translation wouls b used global or just for that modul. There are some php-systems, who have that feature. I'm not commit this to the cvs yet. At line 945, Encompass/pnclasses/Encompass.php, should be added with iblkwidth $this->DTS_attrib = array( "THEMEPATH" => $this- >skinspath, // the skins path (themes/$skinName) "IMAGEPATH" => $this- >imagepath, // image path ($themepath/images) "PAGEWIDTH" => $this->config ['pagewidth'], // entire page width "LEFTWIDTH" => $this->config ['lcolwidth'], // left column width (left blocks) "RIGHTWIDTH" => $this->config ['rcolwidth'], // right column width (right blocks) "IBLKWIDTH" => $this->config ['iblkwidth'] // inner column width (inner blocks) sjah |

Hi eNvolist I've translated the database to spanish and I have found a problem. After installing with the script everything went ok and all blocks loaded normally. After that I dumped the spanish translation and: In Subjectsblock and dayly archive block I found a problem: Block type subjectsblock doesn't seem to exist. Please check your includes/blocks/directory. I checked the database and everything seems to be right in envo_blocks. Is there any other table related to this block? Then I tried to dump english and italian database and same problem. Nuclei |
