Exactly - hmm... - you would have to dig up the various specs about
window manager hints :-)
In short, it's the glue that is used by applications like gnome/kde 
panel pagers and window lists to get information about managed windows, 
to request the window manager to switch desktop, (de)iconify windows 
etc., and by applications in general to request certain attributes like 
sticky, above/below, icon, name, etc.

my suggestions and tell if it makes a difference, or tell me why my
