I reported this bug against openSUSE linux, version 42.2:

In case this is not a distribution specific / packaging related bug, maybe you guys have an idea what to look for. All my inboxes are syncronized via IMAP if this happens to be relevant.

This works fine for me (using Thundbird 51.1.1 with Enigmail 1.9.7) using Windows, Ubunutu and macOS. That's most likely a distribution-specific problem.
