Imagine my surprise when I spotted some unknown daemon running on my machine, listening on port 4223 (that I wasn't warned that Enigmail would do that is a whole other problem) but I was even more surprised to find that it was a left-over from Enigmail, which I had uninstalled. The daemon really ought to at least be stopped when Enigmail is uninstalled, if not deleted.
Enigmail cannot do anything when it is uninstalled. The daemon will disappear if you log off or reboot.
