Commit [r1602] Maximize Restore History

Trunk:

- Add three basic lua functions: etype, assert_type and assert_bool
(including their refman-entries).
- Replace most type-checks in libraries by assert_type or assert_bool.
Note:
- Typos are still possible, and probable, error messages might be
caused by wrong assertions and hence misleading. Please report on
any misleading error messages you encounter.
