Hi,
I'm trying to use my SB Live Platinum card to record
sound using a mic connected to the Mic In/Line In 2
connector on the front of the live drive. I have your
drivers installed, and am getting sound through the
headphone socket of the livedrive, so everything seems
to be OK in that respect, but I can't record anything
with the mic.
I've checked all the silly stuff like not having
switched the mic on, or having the volume down, and the
problem seems to be twofold.
1) When I go into aumix (mixer program), 'line 2'
isn't one of the devices that I am able to set as a
recording source. 'Line' is, as is 'Line 1' 'Mic' 'CD'
'Phone In' and 'Video', but not 'Line 2'.
2) The software that I am using to record (Audacity)
asks me to select a playback device, and a record device.
By default both are using '/dev/dsp' Which device
should I have selected as a record device?
Any help you can offer me would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks,
Mark Wilkinson

You have to use the emu-tools to enable line2/mic2.
To record from it, you'd use the following command:
emu-dspmgr -a"Line2/Mic2:ADC Rec"

corleone:~# emu-dspmgr -a"Line2/Mic2:ADC Rec"

Hi,
I've tried the <emu-dspmgr -a "Line2/Mic2:ADC Rec">,
even removing the input that was linked to ADC Rec
(as it is written in the file), but nothing changes in aumix..
How do i know which aumix channel (or other mixer's)
to use after having addressed line2 to adc rec?
i don't know if it can help someone, but anyway:
i was able to record from line2 by doing:
<emu-dspmgr -a "Line2/Mic2 R:ADC Rec R">,
then the same for the left channel, and selecting mic as a
recording channel in aumix...
many thanks guys,

Howdy,
Just curious if you have the same problem I do in regards to
recording.
With audacity, does the progress line that goes from left to
right when recording actually move to the right? Or does it
move one pixel to the right and then start back over again.
Does audacity hang whenever you try to do something after
recording?
Did you try to use 'rec' (usually standard on most dists).
if you do 'strace rec blah.wav' does it hang in a wait4(-1...) ?
As for aumix you can adjust line2 on the command line with
aumix -2 <params>.
see man aumix for more details. I did not find a way in my
brief perusal of the man page to make the gui manipulate this.
Good Luck.
Regards,
