From hardware reviews I see that some models support hardware based mp3 encoding. I'd like to see
support for this available to user space programs.
(I'm not currently a card owner, but would be more likley to be one if...)
There is no such thing. The SB Live MP3+ card only
has "Mp3" in its product name because it comes with the
Xing software encoding program. There is no hardware
encoding, or decoding in any creative labs cards. This was
falsly advertised on the MP3+ brand sound cards, and has
been confirmed by creative labs themselves that there is no
such hardware encoder or decoder.
