Wolfpack Empire 4.3.6 released

This release offers new features, fixes serious bugs, and tweaks some game rules.

Player-visible changes include means to control repair of individual units (replacing budget priorities), reduced plane abort chance, minesweepers navigating at full speed, reduced bridge population, a simpler sector mobility cost formula (costs tweaked as well), land units marching slower on highways and in newly taken sectors, and a friendlier land unit attack mobility rule.... read more

Wolfpack Empire 4.3.5 released

This release fixes a show-stopper bug that crept into 4.3.4. Player visible changes include final polish to group, fleet, wing and army conditionals.

Deities are urged to use this release for new games. Upgrading mid-game is normally not supported, but upgrading from 4.3.4 to 4.3.5 is.

There is no separate client release 4.3.5, as the client did not change since 4.3.4.

Our pthreads code has known problems with shutdown. In particular, the shutdown command may fail to terminate the server process. So far, this has been observed only with LinuxThreads under Linux 2.4 and earlier. Note that configure prefers LWP over pthreads when both are available, as they are on most platforms.... read more

Deities are urged to use this release for new games. Upgrading mid-game is not supported and expected to result in total disaster.

There are no client binaries for this release, as changes are limited to configuration. Client binaries did not change since 4.3.0.

Our pthreads code has known problems with shutdown. In particular, the shutdown command may fail to terminate the server process. Wolfpack Empire 4.2.23 released

This release fixes serious problems found in 4.2.22.

Deities are urged to use this release for new games. Upgrading mid-game is normally not supported, but upgrading from 4.2.22 to 4.2.23 is.

There is no separate client release 4.2.23, as the client did not change since 4.2.22.

Attention, client writers: Ships used to be printed differently depending on option SHIPNAMES in some places. Since 4.2.22, SHIPNAMES is no longer optional. Some clients got confused by this. To avoid that, version now pretends the option still exists and is enabled. This will go away in one of the next releases. Please update your clients.

changes include the ability to listen only on a specific interface.

Wolfpack Empire 4.2.21 released

This release fixes security holes, crashes, hangs and abusable bugs.
Player visible changes include support for UTF-8 encoded Unicode in
human-human communications. Deity visible changes include renaming of
command hidden to peek.

The server can now dump core on a wider range of crashes. As always, we may or may not be able to help you in case of such a crash, but the chances are much better if you enable core dumps and save the core file along with the executable and the data directory.... read more

This is a `brown paper bag' release. A bug `fix' in 4.2.15 broke sector production when part of the work is used for sector construction.

Wolfpack Empire 4.2.13 released

This is primarily a bug fix release, but there are a few new features as well:

* `edit' can now work non-interactively. Contributed by Ron Koenderink.
* Renamed lstats to lstat for consistency and to match info page.
* New `map' flag `h' to highlight own sectors. Contributed by Marc Olzheim.
* New option ROLLOVER_AVAIL. Contributed by Drake Diedrich.
* Land units now fortify automatically at the update using excess mobility. With code from Marc Olzheim.
* Wandering che are less predictable.
* Land units no longer regenerate mobility faster while it is
