In hopes of making life easier for other EMMA newbies, I'd like to point out that 47653 is the default port for the ctl connect tool. I assumed "localhost:47653" was just an example, and tried connecting to my remote host using its HTTP listen port. This generated EOFException because it failed to connect. You can use a different port by setting rt.control.port when instrumenting your classes.
