Did you do the 'sudo make setuid' step in emc2/src?  Did you
configure with --enable-run-in-place?

I have had trouble with HEAD, but I have been busy with other stuff
(posting soon).

On the subject of mail, I have been getting messages - 20 from the
past three days.
