Good idea to place it here first, but you might want to develop some accurate timing with this, I mean, we have 7486, 74LS86, 74S86, 74C86, 74HC86 etc, etc. Some of there are open collector output with a fixed pull-up resistor to VCC and some are CMOS push-pull outputs, the treshold values also vary. Nide idea anyway, I just wonder: what is pulse doubling good for? I mean in the practical sense; I use quadrature outputs, since they provide me with the maximum pulse rate available (currently runs at 50k). This is fed to PIC18F4431 which does the stepper motor phase control, with current amplitude changing with the speed. Notice that I don't mention steprate, but speed instead, since at low speeds the motor is driven with sine-cosine current waveforms, allowing for completely quiet movement with no rough steps. When my camera comes back I may provide some video on youtube.
