For those of us with R8 tooling (or most any collet tooling) being able to adjust the 0 of the Z axis would be very beneficial. I don't see any way to do this in the documentation, and tool length offsets are too variable with collets. I'd like to put a simple touch off height block on the table at the toolchange location and zero each tool at the toolchange and continue to program.

Agreed, with the addition that you should be able to jog any axis whilst paused. (lathe or Mill). It's impossible to replace a broken insert, or manually change and zero tools.

I interpret OP's feature request as asking for a way to set TLO after a toolchange, not specifically asking for jog-while-paused.

Setting TLO as part of a toolchange is possible in LinuxCNC 2.6 and later using remapping. See the sample config sim/axis/remap/manual-toolchange-with-tool-length-switch for an example.

I know people are using this technique to accomplish OP's desired functionality on real machines.

I just mentioned this because I saw the comment from Steve Balckmore
      associated with this feature request.

      Thanks

      Rick
