Since I thought that this issue goes against EK's
description ("yet forgiving" part), I am attaching a patch
that fixes the problem. Hopefully it can make it into next
release.

I spose this is a bit more of an enhancement, since the spec does not
allow for whitespace in between the start of the tag name and the <
character.
