All, Some of you may be still struggling with the whole idea of open source and what the licenses mean etc.......we'll, you aren't alone. There is an interesting article in the Financial Times: http://news.ft.com/cms/s/78d9812a-2386-11d9-aee5-00000e2511c8.html The comments generated on LinuxToday regarding it are also interesting: http://linuxtoday.com/news_story.php3?ltsn=2004-10-23-003-26-OP-LL (scroll down a bit for comments) Of course both sides approach the subject with a bias. The article authors though are approaching the situation the same way that they would approach any other legal situation....in the context of history. Lawyers are mostly like that, they prefer to imitate instead of innovate...it's safer that way. Statements like: "Traditional companies have evolved their capital structures for good reason." Shows that he can't think outside the perception box he has found himself inside. Good thing DaVinci, Guttenburg, Edison and Ford didn't have that problem. Many people haven't realized that we are in the midst of a paradigm shift. The transformation from industrial to information ages has been made. During that transformation we (society) mostly applied industrialized rules to information. Now we are refining how information is captured, valued and managed. Cheers, Tim |
