I have the same problem with a DC10Plus card i have a picture in xawtv but with effecttv a get this error. i have look with v4l-info en set the channel and norm
./effecttv -device /dev/video0 -channel 1 - norm pal.

Whenever I try to run effectv (on Fedora Core 2 - kernel 2.6.6), I only get this error-message:
video_init: Can't find a supported pixel format.
Video initialization failed.
The webcamera works works with xawtw ( it's an w9968cf (Creative WebCam Go Plus) ), so I can't see why it shouldn't work with effectv? Any ideas?
I have roughly read the source code of w9968 driver
and found it supports YUV422 format which EffecTV supports. Hmm, what's wrong?
EffecTV has an undocumented option "-debug".
Could you run EffecTV with "-debug" option and post
the output to this forum?

Try to adjust the image size. You can see it just running xawtv. Then type effectv -geometry WxH
Here W and H are Width and Height in pixels.
