Also happened when saving inventory changes to the main character. No problem saving changes to stats, innate abilities or proficiencies. Using Steam version of the game, in Windows 10. Could save successfully using same game version in Windows 7. Setting compatability mode to Windows 7 and running as administrator did not solve the problem.
Using EEKeeper 1.0.4.0

the game won't allow me to save any items to my character's inventory; I can modify stats and everything else but a simple robe of vecna and amulet of power (not isolated, it affects ALL the items) for a cleric-mage is apparently too much to ask; then forcing a save any other way causes the program to crash

Yes, it's the same with my game... I have Win 7, I'm using the Steam Version of BGEE and EEKeeper 1.0.4.0.
I can modify all stats and save the game, but when I change any item on my characters and try to save, EEKeeper will crash.
Strange enough, this only happens at the EE version of Baldur's Gate II, but the editor works perfectly with Baldur's Gate I.
I tried everything... no matter what I do, EEKeeper crashes. No difference between new and imported characters, no matter which items I change or if I do it with my character or with NPCs, nothing works. :-/
Does anyone out there have an idea what to do?
Or can any of you confirm this is indeed a Baldur's Gate II problem?! This way we could at least narrow it down to BGII. Or does any of you have the same Probs with BG I?

Having same issue- No matter item type or number I try to add to save game as soon as I save it crashes. I had it work 1 time out of about 250 didnt change anything but it didnt crash- I also attempted to just add 1 item at a time. to no avail. Changing things like Strength Charisma Intelligence etc worked fine just no luck when adding any item like Flail of Ages or Ring of Gnaxx etc

I had this issue in BG2 start dungeon after importing players from a multiplayer save into a single player save. I could edit stats but inventory = crash.
I loaded my game, earned some XP, Put some items in my backpack, picked up my familiar, saved as a new save title and it now works. So try that. I think some items are going to make the game crash (they always did) but it does work ok now in BG2ee. To test add things and save (0001,0002 etc) rather than adding 48 items. Not sure if the Familiar was the issue or any of the above steps but it now works.
I have steam sync off as well.
good lux

I just found the work around for this issue I THINK. It crashes when I was trying to add items to new characters who had completely empty inventories every time. I went and bought some items (the black pits 2) and once everyone had one item in their inventories I had no issue saving after that. If the crash is occuring brand new characters, just go get some items in game then try again.
