No

This is something that hasn't worked quite rigth since
water was added to EDGE.

Make a deep pit, add a water extrafloor below the edge
of the pit, then try to get out of the water.

Sometimes I can get out on the first try, most of the
time I have to try several times to get out of the water
using a combination of looking up, running forward, and
hitting the jump key.

Should be a lot more natural to get out and always on
the first try.

Also, graphically intense areas, like the castle.wad
where you get on the long bridge that spans the lake,
are much more difficult since the framerate is a bit
slower.

I'm not sure this is a bug. In real life (not that
we care too much about that with Doom :-),
getting out of water at a pure vertical edge
(like the side of a swimming pool) is pretty
    difficult.

I think this needs to be addressed within
maps themselves, having a "stair" (or in
the future: a slope) at the water's edge
(under the water, like the corner of some
    swimming pools).

I disagree. I grew up in the water most of my childhood, and I
could easily swim up to an edge and get out of the water.

But that aside, all games with water in them allow you to
fairly easily get out of water by at least going up to the edge
and hitting jump. It shouldn't be that hard and IMO it
shouldn't require special steps in the maps as a workaround.

    Fair enough.

How should it work then ? Seems that using the
jump key might be the best way. It's really a new
action: "climb out of water". It requires you to be
next to an edge. What distance between water
level and edge height should be allowed ?

Hmmm... coding-wise, it's still very awkward,
because you are only "swimming" when your
head is below the water level.

I think it requires good "climbing walls"
support for it to work properly.

I would say if you're within 15% of your radius next to a
ledge, and you're "swimming" near the surface of the water
(e.g. not submerged), and you hit jump, you get out of the
    water.
