Using the wad from DOOM 1.9:
size: 12408292 date: 5/25/1995
I do:
edge32 -iwad doom.wad
I get the error:
"Identify version: Unable to add specified 'doom.wad'"
What am I doing wrong?
Negatory... it's a pristine WAD, straight off the Ultimate
Doom 1.9 CD. I didn't set any permissions on it (am in
Win98, if that matters). I was going to grab the source
eventually and trace the error, but got sidetracked with
Fallout. :)

Is DOOM.WAD in the directory where edge32.exe exists?

Is it set to read-only?
Is this a modified DOOM.WAD? (something merged into it)
Works fine here.

I'll mess with this later. Obviously I'm doing something
screwy.
