Actually, I seem to be having some problems. I've been doing most of the work on my laptop (x86), and just tested my ede-panel on the ARM computer. Right-clicking doesn't seem to work and it likes to segfault. Attached a patch for ede-panel, let me know if it works for you. Some notes on things I changed: -I removed AppletManager completely, it's all done inside Panel now -All applets have a double inheritance. First, from Fl_Widget (or one of its derivatives) and also from a basic Applet class that provides one virtual function, identifying what type of applet it is. This is the best method I could come up with so that applets could be identified (as the panel cycles through its children when closed, saving the type and location of each) -Some code is code is hacked in there and not very efficient, but it works (at least on my laptop) Let me know if it works for you. ...Damon On Sat, Nov 6, 2010 at 3:18 AM, Sanel Zukan <ka...@us...> wrote: > Hi Damon, > > Excellent work! Hi Damon, Excellent work! Yes, it would be nice to put this in the current code :) Are you interested to distribute launcher/panel in some sort of package as alternative for ubuntu/lxde versions? Btw. it would be nice if you could describe ede behavior on your computer: speed, memory usage, etc. as I'm not able to test it on ARM based computers. I've been using EDE on a slower computer (ARM based) and have been doing some development on it. So far, I've written a basic desktop launcher (replacement for the standard desktop, along the lines of Ubuntu's netbook-launcher or LXDE's lxlauncher). I also rewrote parts of ede-panel, so it can be configured while running (adding/removing widgets, moving widgets, etc. http://imgur.com/0jpyI.png If you like, I can send a diff. ...Damon |

Hi, > I would like to use EDE and become a part of its development for MINIX3. But > unfortunately EDE 2.0 cannot be installed on MINIX3 because jam cannot be > installed on MINIX3. True for now. We probably had some miss-communication last time, but as I said before, and now: I _would like_ to see jam on Minix3, but unless I get more detailed input except "it fails on _vfork", I can't do anything more. Jam is very portable, and as Minix3 is in large part Unix itself, my thoughts are how there maybe needs some minimal tweaks to make it works. And, I'm willing to help here ;) > I had requested to make a package without jam or make jam build optional > such as adding ---build-jam like flag to configure enable jam build and > disable jam build. It would be nice if anyone do it. besides that MINIX3 If you are willing to hack some autoconf/automake support, feel free ;) as I'm always open for new suggestions. But, at least from my view, it would be much simple to port jam on Minix3 ;) > doesn't support dbus and other dependencies which EDE 2.0 have. So I thought > of a new way that's my second point. I didn't know Minix3 does not have dbus support. Any chance it could be ported on this platform? Anyone tried this before? As EDE is trying to support as much things from fd.o as possible, dbus will be probably involved even more. In the past I had plans to write wrapper around edelib dbus API to use some temporary facility when dbus is not available, but things are not so simple. If Minix3 have something similar, I'm ready to listen :) > If the above said option is not possible MINIX3 will continue to use EDE 1.1 > because we have no other options and will continue EDE development from Above _could_ be possible, but I will need more involvement from your side ;) as I do not have Minix3 installed. I am here to say two things: 1) I would like to use EDE and become a part of its development for MINIX3. But unfortunately EDE 2.0 cannot be installed on MINIX3 because jam cannot be installed on MINIX3. I had requested to make a package without jam or make jam build optional such as adding ---build-jam like flag to configure enable jam build and disable jam build. It would be nice if anyone do it. besides that MINIX3 doesn't support dbus and other dependencies which EDE 2.0 have. So I thought of a new way that's my second point. 2) If the above said option is not possible MINIX3 will continue to use EDE 1.1 because we have no other options and will continue EDE development from MINIX3 and make EDE 1.1 or its successors (developed within MINIX3) as the desktop for MINIX3 such as Minix Desktop Environment. This option is my last possible and easy way for me because developing the EDE from within MINIX3 is good. If I develop EDE from MINIX3 it will not have any dependency problems for MINIX3. I would like to make MINIX3 Desktop environment completely derived from EDE 1.1. Any comments , help, suggestions are always welcomed.. -- Thanks & Regards, Mohammed Rashad K.M http://keralainfo.web4all.in/ +919496620801 |

Please Mohammed, you have to provide me with more details than two-three lines in reply :) What Minix are you using, where (VM?) what gcc version etc. I'm assuming that you concluded missing malloc.h from gcc error report, but please, if you get those, paste them to reply. Also, to get more details about errors, re-run './jam0 -dx' in jam source directory (and paste _all_ output in console). Also, Makefile in jam directory contains some OS specific flags; please check those and see if it can be made working. I'm really keen to see jam on Minix, but as I'm not able to install it currently, the only way to made it working is via third party :) Best, Sanel On Mon, Jul 5, 2010 at 9:18 AM, Mohammed Rashad <ras...@gm...> wrote: > I am getting this error when i tried to build jam from ede repository. > minix does not have malloc.h > > I think it would be better if you can add a automake build for ede without > jam. > GenFile1 jambase.c > Cc bin.unknown/jambase.o > ...skipped jam for lack of libjam.a... > ...failed updating of 2 target(s)... > ...skipped 2 target(s)... > ...updated 31 target(s)... > -- > Thanks & Regards, > Mohammed Rashad K.M > http://keralainfo.web4all.in/ > +919496620801 > |

Questions: > a) Slackware 13 with de_DE-UTF8 charset installed. Is UTF-8 support in > EDE incomplete? > ... > the same for me > - german umlauts broken Yes and no. Actually it is a FLTK issue since 1.1.x versions do not have UTF-8 support. There is a branch on FLTK repo that should be soon (hopefully) merged for upcomming FLTK 1.3. It is here: http://svn.easysw.com/public/fltk/fltk/branches/branch-1.3-utf8/ On other hand, I'm planning to add some UTF-8 stuff (or at least do conversion to some ISO-xxx charset, since the last one is already well supported in FLTK) until FLTK 1.3 gets out. > b) Why don't most of the .desktop files in /usr/share/applications not > show up. I checked the files - no big difference between those that > are shown and those that don't. > ... > - just few desktop-files interpreted? Actually there should be some difference ;) For example, if .desktop file has 'OnlyShowIn=' with some value different than EDE, it must be ignored, which is requried by Desktop Menu spec. The same applies if contains 'NoDisplay=true'. Menu items are showed according they 'Categories' values, layout-ed from '/etc/xdg/menus/ede-applications.menu'. So if .desktop file 'Category' key matches expressions in ede-applications.menu file, it will be shown it that submenu. > - no icons in menu You get ede from svn, right? Then, you'll have to 'compile' icon theme (or create .png images from .svg ones). For now, I didn't put .png images on the repo since there are too many files to be uploaded and I'll try to complete this in the near future (if you have some better solution, please let me know :)). For now, you can use this: * go to ede source dir * run 'jam -sBUILD_ICON_THEMES=1' * run 'jam -sBUILD_ICON_THEMES=1 install' Make sure to have librsvg installed, because rsvg tool is used for conversion. > I think you are getting very near to the goal! The talk will be, of course, about EDE and is scheduled in Friday, 30 around 11:00 am. So, if you are near by or have a chance to be in Dresden during this event, feel free to come :) We can discuss about EDE (or else), drink some coffee/bears and have a good time. I'm not sure how did you get them like that; configure script must find (or fail) edelib. Can you please just send me Jamconfig and config.log files? Btw. what "pkg-config edelib --cflags" prints?
