Hi Charles, > 'Yall's bug tracker is down (flyspray can't connect to its database), Oops. @Radek, do you know what's going on there? Could you have a look? >or I'd be filing this there. On trying to add my project to Darcs, I receive the following error (repeated verbatim): > > Project 'myproject' contains linked URIs but the'org.eclipsedarcs.core.repository.DarcsProvider' repository provider does not supported them. Yes, we don't support linked resources, so I guess we should be graceful and just ignore them. Does the problem prevent the project from being connected at all, or is there just the message, but the plugin works otherwise? The message doesn't come out of our own code (I think), but somewhere from an Eclipse Team API we call. Could you send me the stacktrace (if there is any) from the error log (in <your-workspace>/.metadata/.log)? That would help a lot in finding at which place we need to build in robustness. Thanks && ciao, Leif > > My .project file contains the following: > > <linkedResources> > <link> > <name>WebContent/WEB-INF/lib/gwt-servlet.jar</name> > <type>1</type> > <locationURI>GWT_HOME/gwt-servlet.jar</locationURI> > </link> > </linkedResources> > > The mercurialeclipse team resolved their variant of this issue in http://home.zingo.org/trac/mercurialeclipse/changeset/79 > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by the 2008 JavaOne(SM) Conference > Don't miss this year's exciting event. 'Yall's bug tracker is down (flyspray can't connect to its database), or I'd be filing this there. On trying to add my project to Darcs, I receive the following error (repeated verbatim): Project 'myproject' contains linked URIs but the'org.eclipsedarcs.core.repository.DarcsProvider' repository provider does not supported them. My .project file contains the following: <linkedResources> <link> <name>WebContent/WEB-INF/lib/gwt-servlet.jar</name> <type>1</type> <locationURI>GWT_HOME/gwt-servlet.jar</locationURI> </link> </linkedResources> The mercurialeclipse team resolved their variant of this issue in http://home.zingo.org/trac/mercurialeclipse/changeset/79 |

Hi Farid, > Hi > > I want to read the user guide of EclipsDarcs, but it is not available: > > http://eclipsedarcs.org/doku.php?id=userdocs_02 I'm sorry, these user guides were for an older release (0.2), we have meanwhile released 0.4, and there have been no docs online for a while .-) The user guide is originally included with the plugin, after you have installed it, you can find the docs under Help > Help Contents. Well, Let me give you my point of view. Several years ago, I managed to get rid of VSS (visual source safe) and CVS from my company. At that time, my concern was to get something better than those 2, with a great chance for the new one to be accepted by the developers. So we started with subversion. Works good as a replacement. But ... not so good in some areas that ashame me : it does not support true rename, and it= s merging algorithm can not correctly follow up renaming + file changes modifications ... and this has been the case from the last 3 years, and the real merging + file renaming support is still is the roadmap ... The renaming functionality is very important to me. We do a lot of developments in java and dot net. What we can't do reliably with subversion currently is using branches capabilities more heavily, especially refactoring activities in the branches. That's why it's important to me to have true 'darcs mv' support in Eclipse (if not, I see no essential reason to change). As far as I know, the team that worked on the subversion eclipse plugin managed to support the renaming functionality as the plugin seems to be abl= e to do a file renaming while retaining the history. Maybe it could be interesting to steal some ideas from their code ? :-) I don't currently have time to investigate this area, but will help if I can. I think that the real integration of darcs mv in EclipseDarcs could be a huge plus if you want a larger Java developer user base :-) My 0.02 =80, --=20 Laurent Petit 2007/11/9, Leif Frenzel <hi...@le...>: > > > Well, indeed maybe I was not very clear. > > > > I confirm I'm referring to EclipseDarcs plugin functionality. > > > > I usually work in the Java Perspective, and renaming a file in java > > (corresponding to 'darcs mv' command) is called a "Rename Refactoring" > > since java class names and filenames must be synchronized (thus a > > refactoring of a java class name implies a rename of its enclosing > file). > Ah, got it :-) > > Yes, I remember, we had that on the radar at some time, but nobody > seemed to miss it that much since then ;-) In my own practice, I just > re-add the file - which is admittedly not really the same as doing > 'darcs mv'. Ah, got it :-) Yes, I remember, we had that on the radar at some time, but nobody seemed to miss it that much since then ;-) In my own practice, I just re-add the file - which is admittedly not really the same as doing 'darcs mv'. ('Darcs mv' lets Darcs keep a continuous history of the same file, while removing/deleting/creating/adding is, strictly speaking, something different.) The problem there is that 'darcs mv' does not only register the file as renamed - it is actually a command that renames the file. In other words, if the file already has been renamed, it's too late, you can't call 'darcs mv' then. But obviously the actual renaming must be done by Eclipse; thus we can't have Darcs rename the file. Now in this situation the correct way to implement this would be to use a resource modification hook, very deep down in Eclipse's workspace mechanism. Out implementation of this hook would intercept the refactoring at the very place where the file is renamed and call 'darcs mv' instead of letting Eclipse rename the file. However, interfering with these mechanisms is anything but trivial, there are a lot of things that need to be considered, and the risk to the files in the workspace is high if this isn't done properly. So from my point of view, the cost-benefit ratio here wasn't good enough. The plan B would be to implement a background mechanism that runs whenever files are renamed in Eclipse, and re-add the file to the Darcs repo when the original file was already under revision control. I even think there was once a first implementation of that approach. That's a bit more convenient (you haven't to re-add the file manually, it goes automatically), but it's not exactly the same as 'darcs mv'. Well, I guess there are no immediate plans to get this working, at least not for me personally (I'm currently more busy with the EclipseFP plugin which I mentioned). Maybe someone else on the list? I wouldn't be opposed if someone would contribute a patch :-) Thanks && ciao, Leif > > 2007/11/9, Leif Frenzel <hi...@le... > <mailto:hi...@le...>>: > > Hi Laurent, > > > I'm quite new to darcs and trying to self evaluate it. > > For the time being I'm investigating the current capabilities of the > > eclipseDarcs plugin agains my current use cases, and what comes > first is > > the ability (or not) to support the rename refactoring. > Welcome to the Darcs users community :-) > > Are you sure, however, that you actually mean the Darcs-Plugin? Well, indeed maybe I was not very clear. I confirm I'm referring to EclipseDarcs plugin functionality. I usually work in the Java Perspective, and renaming a file in java (corresponding to 'darcs mv' command) is called a "Rename Refactoring" since java class names and filenames must be synchronized (thus a refactoring of a java class name implies a rename of its enclosing file). 2007/11/9, Leif Frenzel <hi...@le...>: > > Hi Laurent, > > > I'm quite new to darcs and trying to self evaluate it. > > For the time being I'm investigating the current capabilities of the > > eclipseDarcs plugin agains my current use cases, and what comes first is > > the ability (or not) to support the rename refactoring. > Welcome to the Darcs users community :-) > > Are you sure, however, that you actually mean the Darcs-Plugin? Hi Laurent, > I'm quite new to darcs and trying to self evaluate it. > For the time being I'm investigating the current capabilities of the > eclipseDarcs plugin agains my current use cases, and what comes first is > the ability (or not) to support the rename refactoring. Welcome to the Darcs users community :-) Are you sure, however, that you actually mean the Darcs-Plugin? Darcs is a revision control system that helps to manage changes to files in the source tree, and we support the integration of Darcs in Eclipse. There isn't actually a use case for refactorings in this context. (Or maybe I just can't see the connection directly, so please elaborate :-) Did you perhaps mean the programming language Haskell (which is the language in which Darcs is written)? This would not be very far off topic, since most of us here at EclipseDarcs are also involved with Haskell (and even Haskell for Eclipse). There is an Eclipse plugin for Haskell, which is named EclipseFP (eclipsefp.sf.net) and where refactoring support is definitely on the road map for the next months. > > I saw the subject was debated on the mailing list 2 years ago, but it > seems to me (as for the current 0.4.0 stable version), that this > functionality is not yet implemented. > > Do you confirm that, and could you possibly tell me where the > functionality is placed in you roadmap ? At the moment, EclipseDarcs is very quiet. Since we are working in our spare time on it, there are phases from time to time when we do something (and there has been no such phase for a while now). So EclipseDarcs currently integrates some, but not all features of Darcs in Eclipse. Hello, I'm quite new to darcs and trying to self evaluate it. For the time being I'm investigating the current capabilities of the eclipseDarcs plugin agains my current use cases, and what comes first is the ability (or not) to support the rename refactoring. I saw the subject was debated on the mailing list 2 years ago, but it seems to me (as for the current 0.4.0 stable version), that this functionality is not yet implemented. Do you confirm that, and could you possibly tell me where the functionality is placed in you roadmap ? Thanks in advance, Regards, -- Laurent Petit |

I have a repository, and I made a copy into the workspace using darcs: darcs get $HOME/myproject myproject Then I go to eclipse, and click on import -> Existing project to workspace, Select my project, and hit ok. The project imports into eclipse, but eclipsedarcs does not seem to recognize it, and no darcs related options are shown in Team. I am using kubuntu feisty, eclipse 3.2.2, sun's java 6 darcs 1.0.9rc1 The plugin does load and I get some options in the preferences dialog. I see no errors in workspace/.metadata/.log Please help me, what am I doing wrong? |

Hi everybody, I have uploaded the 0.4 release files to the usual places (update site at sf, file releases site at sf) and updated the wiki. Actually I did most of this already yesterday, but then I had to catch a train and left it somewhere in the middle of it :-( Anyway, I think this means that EclipseDarcs 0.4 is now released :-) Almost all of this milestone is Radek's work, so first of all thanks a lot to him. I have posted the changelog file to our wiki ( http://eclipsedarcs.org/lib/exe/fetch.php?cache=cache&media=whatsnew.html&DokuWiki=b1ef10e133f971c20e400301c4f15ce5). Hi everybody, following a discussion somewhere else, I have added declarations for execution environments to the EclipseDarcs plugins. Since EclipseDarcs requires Java 1.5, this means that the minimal execution environment is specified as 1.5. The effect of this is that Eclipse installations that run on Java 1.4 will no longer 'see' the EclipseDarcs plugins. It looks simply as if they are not installed. (Without the execution environment declaration, the plugins would appear in the UI, e.g. as menu items, and when the user clicks them, a nasty exception is written to the log.) So this makes the whole thing a little nicer to look. For those of you who are interested in some more info: http://www.developer.com/java/ent/article.php/3639021 Thanks && ciao, Leif -- Leif Frenzel http://leiffrenzel.de http://cohatoe.blogspot.com |

Hi everybody, I have started testing on the current status for 0.4. So far it looks good to me. I have not yet tested a lot with http and ssh repos, only with local repos. Below is my current testing log: [snip] Showstopper: ------------ - none :-) Minor things (no blocker, but should be fixed): ----------------------------------------------- 1) specific repo selection does (not yet?) work in darcs-send dialog 2) apply patchbundle dialog does not yet work I have disabled both functionalities for the time being. 3) I think it should be possible to enable patch annotations (and perhaps even pristine tree browsing) for ssh repos 4) the new features need perhaps a bit of documentation Trivial things: --------------- 1) - (on Windows) - run with a fresh workspace, open the Darcs Repository Browsing perspective - select 'New Repo Location' - the dialog is far too wide 2) - perhaps we should not show the repo itself when pulling and pushing [snap] I have now pushed all patches to the main repo, and I'm preparing another intermediate build, 0.3.2, for testing. All goes well, we should be able to get 0.4 out by the end of the week :-) Thanks && ciao, Leif -- Leif Frenzel http://leiffrenzel.de http://cohatoe.blogspot.com |

Hi everybody, just to give you a pointer, the ssh client that was part of the CVS plugins in Eclipse is now made more generally available in the platform, here's a bit more info: http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops/S-3.3M6-200703231616/eclipse-news-M6.html This applies to Eclipse 3.3 as of M6, and we probably don't want to make Eclipse 3.3 a requirement already ;-). But it's a thing that we should keep in mind, and once we think we should move on to Eclipse 3.3, it will probably be a helpful API. Thanks && ciao, Leif -- Leif Frenzel http://leiffrenzel.de http://cohatoe.blogspot.com |

Any feedback would be of course very helpful. And perhaps as a small clarification: that build contains all patches done so far (by far the most of them by Radek, including Push/Pull/ssh repos). They are not yet pushed all, but they were contained in the various patch bundles to this list. Once they are all in the repo, plus any bugfixes that might be needed, I'll update the changelog and then proceed to create a release build. Hi, Ok, I don't remember which Patches I've sent and which I haven't so here are all patches against http://eclipsedarcs.sf.net/repo/ This pretty much concludes my input for 0.4 and makes eclipsedarcs usable for me. I really would like to see "cherry-picking-everything" but I know this would be very hard to do (especially for me - as I am not so fluent with Eclipse SDK). SSH Repositories are still somewhat experimental and the notice has been added. I don't know will I have time to explore SSH features in Eclipse SDK as Leif suggested. Please remember to use unstable darcs on windows if you'd like to use ssh repositories! Also, you can choose to push to http repos - this is not validated - sorry. If I will find some time I will implement validation. SSH Repositories failed for me once on Linux but I couldn't find the reason and it works now. Strange. Anyway, here they go: Tue Mar 20 15:33:20 CET 2007 Radoslaw Grzanka <rad...@gm...> * Cleaning. Tue Mar 20 15:31:51 CET 2007 Radoslaw Grzanka <rad...@gm...> * Notice for SSH repository location creation.
