Hi, I followed the installation process as follows: ./UNPACK_5_10_39_i386_linux which unpacks and untar eclipse_basic_5_10_39_i386_linux.tgz. Then run the installation script for the software: ./RUNME However, when I typed ./UNPACK_5_10_39_i386_linux, following error message displayed: ./UNPACK_5_10_39_i386_linux: No such file or directory even I was in the dir where UNPACK_5_10_39_i386_linux is located and UNPACK_5_10_39_i386_linux is set to be executable. BTW, I am using bash on Linux. Many thanks, David |

If you are actually printing the string using printf/1,2, you can use %n to specify a new line, instead of \n (%n is a control annotation for printft that specifies a new line, not an escape sequence). This has the advantage of printing a new line on all architecture (\n on its own may not be printed as a newline, e.g. on Windows). Cheers, Kish |

Ulrich Scholz wrote: > Hi, > > I'd like to create a String that includes, e.g., newlines. Is that > possible? And how? String (and atom) syntax allows the usual escape sequences like "\n", or octal sequences "\012" or ISO hex sequences "\xa\". The full spec is in the Syntax appendix of the User Manual http://eclipse.crosscoreop.com/doc/userman/umsroot143.html#toc149 If you are unsure of what you are getting, you can check with string_list/2: ?- string_list("a\nb", L). L = [97, 10, 98] Yes (0.00s cpu) This also works backwards to construct a string from character codes: ?- string_list(S, [97, 10, 98]). S = "a\nb" Yes (0.00s cpu) To assemble strings from larger components, look at concat_string/2,3: ?- concat_string(["abc", "\n", "def", 123], S). S = "abc\ndef123" Yes (0.00s cpu) If you want to build up a string incrementally, you can use a string stream, write into it with the normal I/O builtins, and finally retrieve the result as a single string, e.g. ?- open(string(""), write, Stream), write(Stream, hello), nl(Stream), write(Stream, world), get_stream_info(Stream, name, String), close(Stream). Stream = 27 String = "hello\nworld" Yes (0.00s cpu) -- Joachim |

Hi Tallys, I think for the binary version, the only real issue is the glibc version you are using. For the binary distribution, we are currently compiling it with glibc 2.3, and I believe it should be backwards compatible with any Linux installation with glibc 2.2 or newer. You should be able to compile ECLiPSe from source with older versions of glibc, although there might be issues with older versions of gcc -- we recommend gcc 3.3 or 3.4 now, but at IC-Parc, we used to compile ECLiPSe with gcc 2.9 if I remember correctly. Hi, What are the Linux installation requirements for Eclipse? I mean: minimum kernel version, libc version, etc... I've installed it without problems on my linux machine but I have the latest version of everything. A colleague, however, who has an older installation is having problems with shared libaries. Hi Christina, I am trying to do the exact same thing. The only way I know how to do this is with constraint handling rules. When a constraint is violated you can detect it and react. I am still trying to learn how to do this well with Eclipse. Look at this web page: http://eclipse.crosscoreoptimization.com/reports/eclipse/node22.html I have been wanting to even hire a tutor to help me understand this but haven't had any luck so far. One question I am having right now is how to test if a value or domain intersects another domain, do you know how to do this? Hi everybody, I am writing a program with a set of constraints that use the ic library and finally the search functions search(L,0,input_order,indomain_random,complete,[]). Sometimes, it may happen that at some point my program fails giving no solution. I would like to find which goal failed, to do some more in depth search, i.e. refining some constraints, by exploiting this information. Is there a method to get this information from inside the program, without using the tracer? I have found a question on the same problem in the mailing list, here http://eclipse.crosscoreop.com/archive/eclipse-users/0838.html but I have not found the replays. Any tips on the problem would be wellcome. Thank you very much Cristina |

Such "identifiers" are useless for programming purposes, they are only used in a textual representation to indicate sharing. Best advice: C++ does not have the concept of logical variable. Therefore, do all processing involving logical variables on the ECLiPSe side of your code, and pass only simple data types (integers, strings, etc) through the ECLiPSe/C++ interface. You will save yourself a lot of work. -- Joachim |

Greetings. I am new to ECLiPSe--installed it a couple of days ago-- and like it so far but have run into two smallish problems that don't seem to be covered by the FAQ. I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 and Java JRE 1.5.0_06. 1. I've encountered a problem with the visualization client and tkeclipse. If I select "Visualization Client" from the Tools menu, tkeclipse just hangs--it won't even repair window damage when I move the VC away from it.. On the VC, the only button available on the VC is Interrupt (Resume is grayed out.) If I use start_vc/1 from tkeclipse a similar thing happens except that tkeclipse is a bit more active--it repairs window damage, the menus work, etc., though I can't invoke anything from them--keep getting an error message that says 'Error: cannot do ec_hancle_events while ec_resume running.' I've tried embedding 'start_vc/1' in a predicate, but the predicate never seems to get past that line. find_java/1 does return the right JRE in the right place. 2. I can't seem to find eclipse.el anywhere in the distribution for eclipse mode in emacs--even poked around a little in CVS, but no joy. I'm very likely doing something wrong in both cases...can anyone point me in the right direction? Hi, I wrote a short program in order to show you my problem. #include <eclipseclass.h> int main() { ec_init(); post_goal("compile_term(a(X):- X = [A,A,B])"); EC_resume(); EC_ref X; EC_functor a("a",1); post_goal(term(a,X)); EC_resume(); { .... parsing X .... } ec_cleanup(); return 0; } After the goal a(X) was processed the reference X points to a list of 3 variables. How can i retrieve identifiers like _887 or _A from unreferenced variables? I don't want to use 'ec_exec_string' and 'ec_var_lookup'. Any solution in C or C++ would be very helpful. Thanks! |

And what would > happen if I give two mode declarations for the same predicate? The compiler understands only one mode declaration, and a new declaration replaces a previously given one - you can check by retrieving the declared mode with get_flag(PredSpec, mode, Mode). I guess it was originally done this way so that one could recompile a file with a modified mode declaration and have the compiler see the new mode only. In the age of modules, however, it would probably make more sense to combine several mode declarations into a summary mode for the compiler, e.g. p(-) and p(+) into p(?), then the declarations would be more useful for documentation purposes (currently multiple modes can only be documented via the comment/2 directive). -- Joachim |

Hi everybody, I have a question regarding mode declarations. Chapters 2 and 6.6 of the ECLiPSEe User Manual explain modes. Is it true that there can be at most one mode declaration per predicate specification, i.e., pair of predicate name and arity? I ask because many predifined predicates give two or more modes. For example the reference manual lists the following for append/3: append(+, +, -) append(-, -, +) My guess is: Yes, there can be at most one mode declaration. The modes given in the manual are only to explain the different classes of determinism of the predicate. But then, do predifined predicates have mode declarations? And what would happen if I give two mode declarations for the same predicate? Best, Ulrich -- Ulrich Scholz Personal Memory Group European Media Laboratory GmbH |

Try to execute your program with the tracer, and read the file with an external editor after each close. Hello William, I can tell you the way to compile a CHR code in eclipse. 1) run eclipse 2) load the CHR library [eclipse] lib(chr). 3) convert the CHR file into a prolog file with the command chr2pl [eclipse] chr2pl(chrfile). (*) chrfile must have chr extension 4) compile the prolog file you'll get after previous conversion [eclipse] [chrfile]. Since I am not an expert yet on CHRs it will get me time that I don't have to provide you a basic example but with the guide I gave you in previous emails (see below) I think you'll be able to make your own example. More effort you do, best you learn. I suggest you post the question into the list and not only for me since in the list there are experience people who can give you a hand (if your emails are not bounced). Good luck! Hi, I am just wondering is it possible to attach unique identifiers to constraints imposed at runtime, so that which constraints are imposed can be found out? My program imposes constraints at run time through propogation of other constraints. What constraints are imposed, is only known at run time. regards, David |

As this is probably not of interest to the general users, could you please send by e-mail to me (rather than the list): 1. The version of Windows you are using 2. Which ECLiPSe package you downloaded and tried to install 3. Precisely how the installation of Tcl/Tk fails. Actually, the TCL/TK that comes with TKEclipse can not be installed on windows 32-bit machines. So TKECLiPSe can not be installed on 32-bit machines. cheers, David Quoting Kish Shen <kis...@cr...>: > On Wednesday 08 November 2006 18:23, David Tian wrote: >> hi, >> >> Is there a way to install TKECLiPSe under Windows on 32-bit machines? >> > This should be done automatically when you install ECLiPSe on > Windows. Yes, thank you. I realised that after. This is my current C/C++ code: % ---------------------- % prologCode.pl % ---------------------- :- [orientacion_main,orientacion]. main(A,B,C,D) :- ctr_orient(C,A,B,[lm]),ctr_orient(D,C,B,[lm]). :- main(A,B,C,D). % ------------------------------------- % - cc_orientacion.cc % C/C++ file % ------------------------------------- #include "eclipseclass.h" #include <iostream> using namespace std; main() { ec_init(); post_goal(term(EC_functor("compile",1),"prologCode")); if (EC_resume() != EC_succeed) { cout << "Compilation failed\n"; exit(-1); } EC_ref Result; EC_ref A,B,C,D; post_goal(term(EC_functor("main",4), A,B,C,D)); if (EC_resume() == EC_succeed) { // somebody told me that I need that to allow backtracking post_goal(EC_atom("fail")); } else { cout << "goal failed" << endl; } ec_cleanup(); } %---------- In the orientacion.chr file I write into a file when a constraint is triggered, like that: % Initialize ctr_orient(C,A,B,Rel) <=> length(Rel,N) | ctr_orient(N,C,A,B,Rel,1), open(file, write, S), write(S, ctr_orient(N,C,A,B,Rel,1)), close(S). % Intersection ctr_orient(N1,C,A,B,R1,I), ctr_orient(N2,C,A,B,R2,J) <=> intersection(R1,R2,R3), length(R3,N3), K is min(I,J) | ctr_orient(N3,C,A,B,R3,K), open(file, append, S), write(S, ctr_orient(N3,C,A,B,R3,K)), close(S). . . . % Composition ctr_orient(N1,C,A,B,R1,I),ctr_orient(N2,D,B,C,R2,J) ==> I=1, composition_op(R1,R2,R3), length(R3,N3), K is I+J | ctr_orient(N3,D,A,B,R3,K), open(file, append, S), write(S, ctr_orient(N3,D,A,B,R3,K)), close(S). but only one line is written. . . . But the result of the execution is that only first line is written: % "file" content ctr_orient(1, A, B, C, [lf], 1) and the result of the executoin in prolog environment is: [eclipse 2]: main(A,B,C,D). A = A B = B C = C D = D Constraints: (2) ctr_orient(1, C_280, A_294, B_308, [lm], 1) (4) ctr_orient(1, D_1244, C_280, B_308, [lm], 1) (5) ctr_orient(3, D_1244, A_294, B_308, [lf, l, lm], 2) (9) ctr_orient(5, D_1244, C_280, A_294, [lm, ibl, bl, sb, br], 2) We would like to write into the file the constraints 2,4,5 and 9 I don't know why there are not written. Excuse me to bother you so much. Your advices and guide are really welcome. I feel really gratefull. Thanks a lot. To write a new line, i found nl(fileId) commnad. It's ok, thanks. Best Regards and good luck. |
