Hello there I would greatly appreciate a small amount of your time to assist with my doctoral research at The University of Newcastle. The research concerns open source licensing and we're seeking developers working on Java projects. The research is supervised, ethics-approved, anonymous and results will be freely available. Participation will also provide a custom licensing report for your project. To learn more, please visit: http://licensing-research.newcastle.edu.au Thanks for reading this email, and I hope you'll consider participating. Best regards Ben Alex (My apologies for being off-topic; this list will not be emailed again) |

Hi, is it possible to have a counter on each client which are synchronized? On every counter should be the same time and they should reach zero together. Best regards Travail |

I've found a problem with the ItemListener registered on a SelectField. I've checked that when this is the only listener registered on it, the event doesn't get fired. But, when you register an ActionListener and the previous ItemListener, then both get fired. May you have a look at this? Thanks in advance. -- Eduardo Millán |

Hello. I'm evaluating the Echo framework for building a web application that requires authentication and authorization. ( I'm pretty new to Echo ) I would like to use the JBoss's built-in security mechanism so I need a username/password pair of fields named : j_username/j_password and an form action named "j_security_check". Using EchoStudio Eclipse plug-in I can build a form with username/password fields and set their IDs as requested, but I have no ideea about how to set the action. Is there any way it can be done ? Has anybody used Echo with an application server built-in security mechanism ? Thank you, Felix __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Hi all, EchoStudio 1.0.3 out. The big news in this release is the availability of sample applications and templates. The samples currently include: - A "Loan Calculator" application. This application is intended to be extremely simple, and is thus written as a single form. The user may enter various parameters of a loan and solve for the loan amount, term, and payment. - A Web-based E-mail client. This application is very similar to the one featured in the developerWorks Article about Echo. The application shows how a more complex application can be developed with EchoStudio, and includes examples of creating reusable components (such as a Page Navigator) using the visual editor. 1.0.3 also adds application templates, though at present they are fairly simple and oriented at getting new users started more quickly with the product. At present they include applications with a default form, style sheet, and authentication screen. Look for further enhancements to this feature in future updates. This release is also currently being featured on TheServerSide, a very popular application development news and discussion site. The URL of the story is http://www.theserverside.com/news/thread.tss?thread_id=28379. Best regards --Tod Liebeck NextApp, Inc. |

Hello everyone, Echo 1.1.2 has been released. This release corrects some very minor bugs in 1.1.1. Most notable is a fix for the issues developers had with certain EchoPoint components rendering multiple versions of the same HTML attribute in a single HTML element, e.g., rendering two "ID" attributes. Other notable changes include a fix for another DefaultListModel problem and a Table rendering issue. Best regards --Tod Liebeck NextApp, Inc. |

Hi everybody, Echo 1.1.1 has been released. This is a minor bugfix release to correct a few problems found in 1.1: - Fixed bug where ThreadLocal-based EchoInstance retrieval was nonfunctional during EchoInstance.doExit() calls. - Fixed issue where buttons were not focusable in 1.1.x. - Minor performance/memory footpring improvements to HTML rendering architecture. - Fixed bug encountered when replacing a cell in a Grid at a specific position. Hi all, EchoStudio 1.0.2 is out. The focus of this release was on improving a few refactoring deficiencies, where referential integrity between forms and stylesheets was not maintained under a few types of refactorings. Also noteworthy in this release is that the invisible debug instruction pointer bug has been fixed, enabling a significantly more pleasant debugging experience. Hi, Is there a way to programmatically start up an echo session (instance)? I need it in the following situation: I have a web-application to manage users (UMA). This component is also used to authenticate other projects. If I log in into an other project and follow a link pointing to the user management gui I would like to avoid another authenitcation. In other words I would like to start up an Echo instance, set some context variables (authentication info) and then let it run. Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advance, - 101 |

hi! I'm getting exceptions like below from Grid... I suggest adding some serious asserting for the valid/invalid state in Grid.java. I'm using it from Tomcat 5 inside JBoss 3.2.5 - I doubt it's a threading broblem. adding a NP check for autoPositionedCellPositions and returning an empty iterator fixes the problem, only my cells are not displayed of course. hope it helps, - 101 java.lang.NullPointerException at nextapp.echo.Grid.iterator(Grid.java:1246) at nextapp.echoservlet.ui.GridRenderingModel.<init>(GridRenderingModel.java :225) at nextapp.echoservlet.ui.GridUI.render(GridUI.java:65) at echopoint.ui.PanelUI.render(PanelUI.java:95) at echopoint.ui.PanelUI.render(PanelUI.java:95) at echopoint.ui.layout.GridLayoutManagerUI._renderPeer(GridLayoutManagerUI. java:196) at echopoint.ui.layout.GridLayoutManagerUI.render(GridLayoutManagerUI.java: 306) at echopoint.ui.PanelUI.render(PanelUI.java:92) at nextapp.echoservlet.ContentPaneUI.service(ContentPaneUI.java:265) at nextapp.echoservlet.Connection.process(Connection.java:449) at nextapp.echoservlet.EchoServer.process(EchoServer.java:304) at nextapp.echoservlet.EchoServer.doGet(EchoServer.java:214) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:697) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:810) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.internalDoFilter(Applica tionFilterChain.java:237) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.doFilter(ApplicationFilt erChain.java:157) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapperValve.invoke(StandardWrapperValv e.java:214) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardValveContext.invokeNext(StandardValveCo ntext.java:104) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardPipeline.invoke(StandardPipeline.java:5 20) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContextValve.invokeInternal(StandardCon textValve.java:198) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContextValve.invoke(StandardContextValv e.java:152) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardValveContext.invokeNext(StandardValveCo ntext.java:104) at org.jboss.web.tomcat.security.SecurityAssociationValve.invoke(SecurityAs sociationValve.java:72) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardValveContext.invokeNext(StandardValveCo ntext.java:102) at org.jboss.web.tomcat.security.JBossSecurityMgrRealm.invoke(JBossSecurity MgrRealm.java:275) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardValveContext.invokeNext(StandardValveCo ntext.java:102) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardPipeline.invoke(StandardPipeline.java:5 20) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardHostValve.invoke(StandardHostValve.java :137) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardValveContext.invokeNext(StandardValveCo ntext.java:104) at org.apache.catalina.valves.ErrorReportValve.invoke(ErrorReportValve.java :117) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardValveContext.invokeNext(StandardValveCo ntext.java:102) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardPipeline.invoke(StandardPipeline.java:5 20) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardEngineValve.invoke(StandardEngineValve. java:109) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardValveContext.invokeNext(StandardValveCo ntext.java:104) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardPipeline.invoke(StandardPipeline.java:5 20) at org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.invoke(ContainerBase.java:929) at org.apache.coyote.tomcat5.CoyoteAdapter.service(CoyoteAdapter.java:160) at org.apache.coyote.http11.Http11Processor.process(Http11Processor.java:79 9) at org.apache.coyote.http11.Http11Protocol$Http11ConnectionHandler.processC onnection(Http11Protocol.java:705) at org.apache.tomcat.util.net.TcpWorkerThread.runIt(PoolTcpEndpoint.java:57 7) at org.apache.tomcat.util.threads.ThreadPool$ControlRunnable.run(ThreadPool .java:683) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:534) |

Hello all, A release candidate of EchoStudio is now available. This release is mostly a fit-and-finish upgrade, though some more significant improvements have been made to the Style Sheet Editor, such as the addition of cut-and-paste. The release is available from the EchoStudio Site (http://www.nextapp.com/products/echostudio) in both plugin (2MB) and complete IDE (85MB) versions. Please let us know immediately if you find any issues or annoyances with this release candidate! The next release may well have a "less wordy" version number. Hello everyone, A new test release of EchoStudio is now available: 1.0Beta3. With most features near completion, the effort of this release was focused on making the FormEditor faster. A rendering issue was resolved which should speed up the update of the preview pane significantly. Code-generation is now performed "lazily" rather than after every update, resulting in a marked improvement when working with complex forms. This release also includes Echo 1.1RC2 and its new CButton and Row/Column components. If anyone has time, it would be very much appreciated if you could please try using this release to create "crazy" configurations of CButton and Row/Column to ensure that they work as expected for the upcoming Echo 1.1 release. EchoStudio may be downloaded from http://www.nextapp.com/products/echostudio Best regards --Tod Liebeck NextApp, Inc. |

Hi everyone, I'm happy to announce that the first beta release of EchoStudio is now available. EchoStudio is an extension to IBM's Eclipse Framework to provide an integrated environment for Echo development. It provides rapid application development capabilities including form and style sheet designers. Echo applications may be launched and debugged from within EchoStudio. Creating a new Echo project has been reduced to just a few mouse clicks. EchoStudio is a commercial product being developed by NextApp. This release is beta-quality and is for the most part representative of the state of the 1.0 release. The documentation is still under heavy development and there are currently some sections missing and gaps in others. You can download EchoStudio from the web site at: http://www.nextapp.com/products/echostudio As this section of the Web site is under heavy development it is not currently connected to the rest of the site. You will need Eclipse 3.0RC3 (Release Candidate 3) in order to use this release of EchoStudio. EchoStudio WILL NOT WORK with previous releases. Eclipse is available at http:/www.eclipse.org.
