>A new installation of ECB on GNU Emacs 21.2 appears to put all open >buffers in ecb-minor-mode, even those that have nothing to do with it >(*scratch*, my mail buffer, gnus, etc.). Yes, indeed, and this is intented, because ECB is a *global* minor-mode! ECB must be active in each buffer, but why should this be a problem for you? For the dedicated part see below... >Not only that, but it looks like it does set-window-dedicated-p on all >of them, as well, so I can't switch *any* buffers. No, it only sets set-window-dedicated-p on the special browsing windows of ECB, the main edit-area window(s) or the compile-window (if there is any) is surely not dedicated. But anyway: Please send us a problem-report generated with ecb-submit-problem-report otherwise we can not analyse your problems! >It also doesn't play nicely with my mail client (MH-E) in >general. Starting MH after ECB causes Emacs to hang and chew up the >CPU. The reverse, of course, breaks it because the mail window is now >dedicated -- I can see my mail, but I can't read any of it :). The >former problem can be averted if I run each application in its own >frame, but I would rather not do that. My usual mode of operation is to >run multiple applications in one big frame by saving window >configurations to registers. I do not use MH-E, but i suppose for MH-E the same is true as for Gnus: Gnus and ECB can not run is the same frame at least not with the current Version of ECB...In general: ECB can probably not run in the same frame As another application which has ist own window-management. Storing window-configurations in registers does definitivle not work with ECB! >(NB: I reproduced all of these problems under emacs -q, with only the >requisite variables set.) To get sure you have to run "emacs -q -no-site-file" >I'm not sure what can be done about the MH issue, as I don't know whose >fault it is; however MH-E behaves with every other Emacs application I've >ever run. Yes, i believe that but i also suppose that your other Emacs-applications do not have such a window-management like ECB But again. Please report with ecb-submit-problem-report! Klaus |
