We get your point.

We are not supporting SyncMode at the moment. And in more precise term, =
we sometimes use SyncMode and sometimes don't. It is in our TODO list =
that we have to implement SyncMode. This feature will be controlled by =
Request constructors (as it comes from CPA). After that, we expect that =
whether SyncMode is used for error/ack or not will be controlled by =
Request constructors as well.

  we're interop testing right now in Europe, and found that there may be =
a problem with the synchronous replies for errors and acks. AFAICS, the =
responseMessage is sent back sync in MessageServiceHandler for any type =
of response. This conflicts with the use of ErrorURI etc. It would be =
more useful to at least allow async responses unless the address can not =
be resolved from the incoming message. Not everyone supports SyncMode, =
and it's a possible issue for Mail as well.
